Sergeant Paul Metzger began working for the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office in September 2012 as a full time Patrol Deputy. He had started his career in law enforcement as a Patrolman for the Town of Minocqua Police Department in January 2009. Metzger was promoted to Patrol Sergeant in September 2017 and has served in that role on 3rd shift since that time.
Sergeant Metzger currently serves on a number of special teams. He has been a member of the SWAT Team since 2013, serving as a sniper and tactical operator. Metzger is an instructor in a number of law enforcement disciplines including emergency vehicle operation and control, handgun and rifle instructor, and the Sheriff’s Office simulation and tactical firearms training tool, the VirTra. He also serves the Sheriff’s Office on the Boat Patrol, Honor Guard, and assists in fulfilling quartermaster duties. Metzger had been a field training officer for 5 years prior to his promotion and currently assists in the FTO program. Sergeant Metzger is also a Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources certified instructor in Boat Safety, Hunter Safety, Snowmobile Safety, and ATV safety, running an annual boat safety program at the Fond du Lac City/County Government Building.
Sergeant Metzger earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh in Criminal Justice, graduating in 2008. Metzger earned his police certification from Northeast Wisconsin Technical College in the fall of 2008.
